CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

In line with the Musical Écran music documentary festival, Bordeaux Rock remains active year-round with various organizations in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region by offering music documentary screenings and image education workshops.

This initiative takes the form of music documentary screenings followed by discussions with a specialist in the themes covered in the films. The speakers (directors, musicologists, journalists, teacher-researchers, etc.) enhance the sessions with their testimonies. Some screenings are also complemented by video practice workshops and image education activities to offer a concrete and playful artistic experience centered around the themes discussed in the films.

Bringing together cinema and music to raise societal questions
As a comprehensive medium, music documentaries allow for the exploration of topics that resonate with school curricula: community artistic and musical practices, the emergence of subcultures, as well as current societal issues. By broadening perspectives and offering new insights on themes as varied as the fight against discrimination, freedom of expression, or activism, music documentaries promote diversity, intercultural dialogue, tolerance, and respect for human rights.

During the 2022–2023 school year, approximately 1,000 students participated in these screenings across all activities. A few of the institutions we collaborate with include: Lycée Gustave Eiffel (Bordeaux), Collège Henri de Navarre (Coutras), Collège du Grand Parc (Bordeaux), Lycée Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (Terrasson), Collège Pablo Neruda (Bègles), Lycée Maréchal Lannes (Lectoure)…

CULTURAL ACTION – OUTSIDE SCHOOL HOURS

We also offer cultural action projects (music documentary screenings and workshops) aimed at young people from social organizations (Grand Parc Social Center and Activity Center) as well as in correctional settings (the youth section of Gradignan prison).
Our approach is to co-develop the project with partner organizations and participants in order to offer relevant projects and establish lasting partnerships with various stakeholders in the region.

Are you a teacher or work in a social organization and wish to develop an enriching cultural project? Our team is available to work with you to create tailor-made sessions. For more information, please contact Nina Guyot

INTERNATIONAL ACTIONS

Twinning between the cities of Bordeaux and Riga

Between 2021 and 2023, we implemented a cultural action project with the Jules Verne High School in Riga as part of the eighth edition of the Musical Écran festival, which took place from November 7 to 13, 2022. The aim was to build and strengthen ties between the two cities and foster exchanges between foreign high schools. We organized an exchange between five students from the Jules Verne High School in Riga and five students from the Gustave Eiffel High School in Bordeaux.

The five Latvian students came to Bordeaux, accompanied by their student life coordinator, during the Musical Écran festival. For the first time, we established a “youth award,” a prize awarded by the high school students (alongside the audience award and the official jury award). Four music documentaries were selected and watched by the 10 students, who then collaborated and developed a critical perspective to choose the grand winner.

In 2023, the students from Bordeaux also traveled to Riga to meet their Latvian counterparts in order to strengthen the exchange and finalize the project by watching new documentaries and developing a tool for analyzing music documentaries aimed at young people their age.

This guide was created to provide young people with the tools to analyze music documentaries, created by young people for young people.
