BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, THE SINGER WHO WHISPERED IN AMERICA’S EAR
The Boss’s Struggles and His Attachment to His Country
Thomas Boujut · 2024 · 52’ · VO
In 1975, music critic Jon Landau wrote, “I saw the future of rock ‘n’ roll, and its name is Bruce Springsteen.” With the album Born to Run, Springsteen rose to the heights of rock and American music.
Coming from a working-class immigrant family, he continuously sang of pain and resilience, infused with the biblical imagery that surrounded him in his childhood (“damnation, redemption, transcendence, and disgrace”).
The documentary revisits the hero of an America that sees itself in his lyrics and the love story between him and his country. It explores the story of “The Boss,” a man connected to the working class and known for his numerous causes: supporting Vietnam veterans, fighting against HIV, racism, and more. And it closes on his 2020 declaration: “Donald Trump will lose, and our long nightmare will finally end,” made just days before the results of the U.S. election were announced.
