KRISTEN’S HARP
In the Spotlight of the Breton Harpist
Pauline Burguin et François Gorin · 2024 · 52’ · VO
Kristen Noguès (1952 – 2007) was an unsung genius. This exceptional woman thrived in a male-dominated environment, playing the Celtic harp—an instrument popularized by Alan Stivell but with few composers and soloists. In short, she didn’t take the easy path.
Her journey, from neo-traditional folk to more adventurous sounds flirting with jazz and improvised music, along with her reluctance to record (only four albums were released during her lifetime), did little to bring her to the attention of the wider public.
Now, fifteen years after her death, this documentary brings back to life an extraordinary figure through archival footage and testimonials from those who knew Kristen Noguès well—friends, close companions, and fellow travelers. In the intimacy of a theater setting, between memories and emotions, the life of an artist is revived, along with her music, reinterpreted by today’s harpists. It’s safe to say that this tribute portrait will be a beautiful discovery for many.
